Happy Birthday, Annita!

As the story goes, I covered a GOOD Magazine party at the National Museum of the American Indian in Downtown New York City September 29, 2007. I schmoozed with editors, drank a lot of free vodka and ultimately ditched any possibility of a story when I met a beautiful belle at the now infamous digital photo booth the party hosted. The details contrast between the two of us. My gal says I was flirting like crazy. I remember her smiling at me continuously, without a break, for three hours. Fact is, we ended up chatting, exchanging phone numbers and planning a date on the steps of the museum. No doubt, there were sparks that first night. We parted ways at 3am when Anna called a cab and I jumped on the subway. John Cusack would love this story. So would the editors at GOOD.
I quit the job a year later, but kept the gal. Needless to say, it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. Today is my gal’s 30th birthday and we’re surely strutting along Guadalajaran streets, sipping Reposado and singing “Las Mananitas” to perfect strangers. Well, that’s how I fancy the day to progress. Everyone and anyone that knows her should email her and tell her 30 is the new 20. She’s under some odd impression that her life is over. Our recently accomplished itinerary — Acapulco, New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle — tells another story. I’d say life’s just starting to rev up for the both of us. Happy birthday, love!
