Travels: Jeremy Fish And Upper Playground Invade Mexico City: “Nature Studies.”

San Francisco based artist Jeremy Fish is in Mexico City right now for his Upper Playground exhibition “Nature Studies“, which opens April 2nd, 2009 in La Condesa. I know this because I stood in line to board my Alaska Airlines flight this morning in Los Angeles and saw a bearded face that looked familiar. I’ll admit, I forgot Jeremy’s name initially, but when I saw him land in D.F. along with me, the courage to ask him if he was a San Francisco-based artist finally overwhelmed me and I jettisoned towards him.

“This may sound weird, but are you a San Francisco based artist?”
“Yeah.”
“Cool man. Your name again?”
“Jeremy Fish.”
“Right! I’ve seen your stuff all over Juxtapoz.”

That’s when he told me about his show, the new Upper Playground shop opening up in Condesa (Calle Amatlán 105
Cuauhtémoc, Mexico City, DF, 06140, Mexico
) and the materials he brought along to paint a mural. Oooooh….sooooo….excited!

Sure I sounded — and probably acted — like a douche when I met him, but I’m not really one to cross that invisible line of space one creates when waiting for their luggage at baggage claim, so I’m glad I did. If you’ve never seen Jeremy’s work, then get on it! It’s rad, especially his San Francisco saloon woodwork. I need to get me some credit to buy one of those. He was recently showcased at the Fecal Face Dot Gallery in El SF and the video is below.
