Photo: A Gang In Mexico City: Represent In The City Of Millions.

There were trademark signatures of gangsta life from Los Angeles everywhere: Nike Cortez kicks and knee-high tube socks, Lokes sitting pretty on buzzed scalps, and Oakland Raiders’ jerseys in both black & white established that these cats were gangsta. I asked if they were from D.F. and to my astonishment they said yes. “SL 13″, they said and the leader showed off a tattoo on his inner bottom lip. I’m clueless when it comes to the culture of gangs in D.F. I asked for a photograph — intending to get a shot of his lip tattoo — and he gestured with his hand to hold on a moment. He slid his Lokes off, took off his jersey and pirouetted — gang signs cocked in the air — to show off his back tats. Did it take you a few years to get those? Simon. Then the whole crew wanted a picture.
