Travels: Norwegian/Mexican Xmas: Fyrste Kake & Tamales.

I spent Christmas in Bellingham, WA with Anna and her family. It was difficult settling into a celebration consisting of less than five dozen cousins, aunts, nieces, nephews, etc, but Anna & her wonderful Norwegian mother cooked up Yucatan style tamales (chicken) and regular corn husk tamales (queso con rajas) to make me feel at home. For dessert, Anna’s mom made a traditional Norwegian cake called Fryste Kake (pronounced “Fish To Kaka”, which makes me slap the knees every time). Of course, I wanted to keel over after such an immense meal, but I gathered myself to photograph the clean up. Today we eat lots of leftovers for snacks and then a turkey dinner.
