Mexico City impressed me everyday with its galleries, open-air exhibitions, Sunday-free-for-all-Mexican-citizens policies in every museum in town. But there were gruesome reminders of mass-production crapola floating around everywhere. Most notably is Roma’s weekly flea-market-esque booths on Alvaro Obregon between Calle Jalápa and Calle Frontera. There you’ll find Beatles memorabilia, bundles of scrunchies and lots of crappy art – the kind of art purchased to decorate townhouses and condominiums for viewing (There were wonderful pieces as well, but the bigger crap stood out). Of course I wanted people to purchase this stuff because I knew a few major sales and the dude retouching red blotches would be able to feed his family that week. But I couldn’t bare the sight for longer than a few seconds.

Canvas Pop is a new service that puts your jpegs (or any image on the net) onto a canvas of your choice, at a depth of your choice, for a fixed price. Now is your chance to put that spectacular sunset shot off the coast of Bora Bora in your living room, or that photo of Roses painted on a building on the accent wall your consistently criticizing. If it looks bad, then you’re the only one to blame. Here’s their “Ideas Gallery“. Townhouses will still look like shit, but your place doesn’t have to.

I’ll dig into the Citoyen Mag business account and give it a whirl soon. Check back. For now, check out Canvas Pop‘s stuff at The Wired Holiday Store.

If you want something more unique than just printing out your pictures, check out http://allpopart.com
You will find pop art portraits in all the trendy illustrating techniques, allowing you to own a real HAND illustrated Warhol Style portrait or LichStyle (comic) and many more…
Check it out, I really believe finding unique sites like this, that still do all the illustrating by hand and without filters is very hard.
