“Mijo! Por que cuando estoy toda fea…” The reaction is the same each time I take a photo of my mom. Even though she’s adorable, she always thinks I’m taking a photo at the wrong time. Last night I arrived back home for the biggest wedding in our family in years. On the stove was a pot of Mengiche, a dip-like dish comprised of queso fresco and rajas. I asked my mom what region of Mexico it comes from and she said, “Quien sabe? Es una receta de tu abuela.” I had two plates with frijoles on the side and lots of tortillas.

It’s dangerous to eat this good, but not too dangerous to have a mama this loving.
