June 29 2010

I gave Matt my camera so he could take a few shots of us. I’m hardly ever ready to relinquish the role as memory-capturer, but today was a special occasion. This marks my last day with the StoryCorps’ team. We only gathered three times during my tenure at StoryCorps. We met for training, we met for a mid-year retreat, and now we meet again for our departure. Five of us our leaving, a sixth leaves in late August.

I’ve never worked with a more mature, dedicated, smart, humorous, passionate and loving group of people. They’ve set the level extremely high for my next job. In fact, I’m terrified I’ll spend time without collaborating with gifted individuals like you see above. When words fail me, I turn to images that say what I cannot. Below, a tribute to the year that I’ll be reflecting on for the rest of my life.

Love the story behind all the stories! You guys should get in the booth and interview each other. I’d like to hear what your experience was like.

There are definitely some “exit interviews” planned for us facilitators and I can’t wait to have mine. I’m now in Mexico City, but I’m sure to be seeing my coworkers soon for some recordings. Thanks for being a supporter, Christine and I appreciate your comment.

Beautiful! I love to see StoryCorps still reaching people all over the country. And I hope we all get to meet at the great StoryCorps 10-year reunion in 2013 (that I’m going to try to get Dave to plan for all of his former employees). Cheers, Karen Callahan (was with SC from the beginning to 2007).

Thank you for sharing these photos, Alejandro! You are all such beautiful people…wishing you and the rest of the exiting facilitators the very best in whatever life brings you next. Thanks for a year of blood, sweat, and tears for the cause. :) -Megan

Alejandro, your photos are rad. Good luck finding a more photogenic bunch. The video makes me smile. :)

These were some of my favorite models ever! I can’t believe you guys always put up with me taking pictures of you. But I thank you all for letting me. I love these photos and the hundreds I didn’t include. I need to make a zip file and send them to everyone. It’ll be another task for my month of unemployment. :)
