This year, the holidays mean more than family visits, endless cookie-consumption and a reason to drink hard liquor everyday to celebrate baby Jesus turning water into wine. In over a week I’ll be taking a road trip from Los Angeles, Ca to Seattle, WA and I intend to stop by galleries the entire way up. [...]

The Gallery

I continued to make my rounds around the gallery, pacing in an 8X8 room filled with sculptures.
Will anyone notice if this donkey figurine is missing?
The case against the wall held three sculptures: a plastic pig with two welded faces, three ears and one snout stared back at me as if asking for release; a [...]

[Look Busy: Haste Wey]

The world needs more of these thoughtful translation-taggers. Yet, “guey” looks really weird when it’s spelled “wey.” Poetic license is always implemented on the streets, but I’m not digging the spelling of this word. “Guey” would have been more profound in writing.
Seen on the streets of Condesa, Mexico City.

The folk at Steregum allude to the Kermit The Frog-like sounds of LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy on “Sound Of Silver”, so I guess it makes sense that Murphy and director Simon Owens imagined this electro-ballad to be sung by Kermie himself. Question: is this the real Kermit? Like, did he waddle over from Jim Henson’s [...]

The thought of rough textured facades and decrepit buildings as aesthetic pillars of beauty is hardly novel in the 21st Century. I caught this video over at Evil Monito this morning and couldn’t take my eyes off of it. Of course, it helps that I’ve been obsessed with this track since Monday morning when I stumbled upon it of Fader. There’s something about the Dan The Automator-ish track, alongside the consistent refrain of “Brooklyn, We [...]

Mexico City boasts much more than Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera paintings when it comes to art. When you take aim at the country’s onslaught of conceptual connoisseurs, then you’ll find a plethora of artists dabbling in eccentricities to hold you over for years. Kurimanzutto has a spanking new art space and exhibition in the [...]

I’ve been listening to Little Joy’s self-entitled album for about a week straight and I can’t seem to get the bounce out of my step. Today, Jason Bentley played a track of theirs on “Morning Becomes Eclectic” and I found myself listening to them when I didn’t even want to. Seriously, I consciously wanted to [...]

If you live in and around Condesa, D.F., your daily commute will probably involve a walk by the Mercado Condesa on Avenida Michoacan and Calle Tamaulipas. Since it’s likely you’ll be inebriated, and/or too stuffed to acknowledge anything around you (too many bars and restaurants, ya know?) you might miss out on the fantastic art [...]

I caged myself with the inclusion of only five tracks in yesterday’s podcast. I’m thankful for more than five tracks! What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving? Who are your favorite American musicians? I would have included Rage Against The Machine, but I’m terrified I’ll toss my Mac out of my window while screaming lyrics [...]
