    Occasionally a televised soccer game will display a graphic specifying the mileage of a midfielder. They run a lot. Sometimes the graphic will state 6 miles, sometimes 10. I was fortunate enough to see Zack De La Rocha of Rage Against The Machine perform about 10 times, and I’d guess he bobbed, thrashed, pogoed, quick-stepped, slashed, crashed and catapulted the equivalent of a marathon during any given show. You’re talking about 14-16 songs performed with the same energy as the song above. Loteria Chicana notified me of Zack De La Rocha‘s birthday, which is today. He’s 40 now. Happy birthday,

    It’s been eight years since Rage Against The Machine took the stage outside of Los Angeles’ Staples Center, exonerating their angst upon a clan of political dissidents, peace-lovers, anarchists, politicos, and embedding a sense in all of us that it was ok to scream, shout, yell, and exclaim a proud finger-thrust towards the institution we were so confident in. This year, the first year Rage Against The Machine has come together since their disbandment in 2000, the Los Angeles rockers decided to take the mic again, but the police were ready for them.   3. Lending An Ear To Unity: Rock The Bells Makes The World Better

    It was difficult to detour festival revelers from ecstasy at this year’s Rock The Bells event. There was enough great music to incite that healthy type of riot. The event left no room for pounding sun-rays, overpriced beverages, and a security team that looked more like they were out to bludgeon people instead of protecting them, to negate one love for concert-goers. As one reveler shouted while 200 or so of us bombarded the lower Orchestra, “power in numbers never fails”. I smiled at her and met with my friends, eventually groovin’ only feet from some of the greatest entertainers
