July 20 2010 In terms of style and ambiance, there better be some room for what we want. July 8 2010 I added over 50 podcasts, 100 rss feeds, a few television shows, some tumblr blogs and other sites today for reasons I’m not too sure of. I intend to gradually refine my perspective on the net. It’s something I’ve lost over the last year and I want it back. I went from photog [...] July 4 2010 What began as a small complaint against yuca-mashed garlic hell turned into a fever, stomach cramps, muscle-aches, dizziness, fatigue and ultimately World-War-fucking-III in my intestines. Quickly, our weekend getaway was held at the tarmac of romance with my dignity spiraling down a toilet. If it wasn’t for my loving caretaker above, I’d still [...] June 11 2010 It still boggles my mind that people question futbol’s position as the greatest sport on earth. One day down, 30 more to go. April 25 2010 I can’t think of another country that can showcase a pink corridor the way Mexico can. April 22 2010 I don’t think this couple found Tepoztlán as magical as we did. I’ve owned my Holga 120 S since 1999, but it took its first tour since 2004 this week throughout the streets of Mexico City. Three prints made it out alive, which leads me to believe I need a little more practice. The photo above illustrates my ineptness to confine light leaks. I also suck at [...] Remember that one time you were studying abroad in Spain and Chayanne‘s “Torero” filled every stinkin’ bar, restaurant, elevator and brothel hostel in town, forever torturing you? Well Rudo Y Cursi‘s “Quiero Que Me Quieras” is doing that to me now. Except this time around, ringtones became the arsenal of choice for pop-culture adorers. Sure [...] There were trademark signatures of gangsta life from Los Angeles everywhere: Nike Cortez kicks and knee-high tube socks, Lokes sitting pretty on buzzed scalps, and Oakland Raiders’ jerseys in both black & white established that these cats were gangsta. I asked if they were from D.F. and to my astonishment they said yes. “SL 13″, [...] A German Shepherd stared at us from a rooftop above the bodega. The streetlights exposed only the slightest movements in the distance. Fireworks sprang from mortar launchers about 500mts away. If there was ever a road I despised walking on late in the evening, it was definitely cobblestone. My ankles can’t take it. The guys [...] Click To Play Play. Enjoy. Thank Osito for putting this together. G5 Summit — Mexico Edition [El Oso] We stormed through highway 57 North with a quartet of beat conductors ransacking their playlists from the backseat of our rental. Noah tossed his best punk and reggae, while Mario rummaged through his hip-hop mix. Revaz entertained us with his 1990′s R&B and I scrolled through whatever it was the highway told me to play: [...] Plans for Covadonga were disrupted last night by the fact that the place was closed for the evening. Great planning by yours truly. We’re heading off to Guanajuato today en route to the Huasteca region where we’ll hopefully run into a waterfall or two, and maybe some hot springs. Mmm. Nature. I think we need [...] We sat fixated by two children holding a crow in their hands. A clown kept the crowd entertained with jokes five generations of Mexicans could recite in their sleep. The cotton-candy man patrolled the square thoroughly, over and over until he found his mark. How old was this Gazebo? The stone frame is completely different [...] My mom still tells my dad to this day that he owes her a trip to Acapulco. After their honeymoon to Ensenada some 43 years ago, my pops promised mom that an Acapulco trip was in their future. Mom is still waiting for a trip to Caleta Beach. You know what happens when you suffer injuries but retain first-team status with your national squad? Sports critics jump on your ass like a dog on a chicken leg. Though, Nery Castillo wasn’t about to let reporters get the last word on his relatively sub-par performances over the last year. In fact, he’s out to [...]
The world needs more of these thoughtful translation-taggers. Yet, “guey” looks really weird when it’s spelled “wey.” Poetic license is always implemented on the streets, but I’m not digging the spelling of this word. “Guey” would have been more profound in writing. Seen on the streets of Condesa, Mexico City.
Mexico City boasts much more than Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera paintings when it comes to art. When you take aim at the country’s onslaught of conceptual connoisseurs, then you’ll find a plethora of artists dabbling in eccentricities to hold you over for years. Kurimanzutto has a spanking new art space and exhibition [...] |
