  1. Video: Shepard Fairey’s New Collage: Houston & Bowery: Os Gemeos Preserved.

    Shepard Fairey’s newest political installation took over the corner of Houston and Bowery this weekend and NYMAG interviewed the artist during the raising of the piece. The space is a wall formerly occupied by Os Gemeos and made famous by Keith Haring. The Os Gemeos painting is preserved, but who knows how long Shepard’s collage will occupy the space. I’m curious if the artist will weigh in on the Arizona debate. Maybe an Alcaraz/Fairey collaboration? A Fairey Alights On Houston And Bowery [via NY MAG]

    How many artists do you know that risk their life to do their art? I know a few that are willing to get arrested, but not too many are willing to sacrifice their heads being plastered on a sidewalk somewhere. Though in Sao Paolo — Brazil’s megalopolis — Pixação has been annoying citizens, police officers and everyone else who wants to bash grafistas. Known throughout the region as a staple of street art since the 1980′s, Brazilian filmmaker and journalist Joao Wainer talks about the style’s influences, it’s dangers and the its relevance to the city.
